About the Grey Bronze Narragansett
The Narragansett's plumage is essentially the Bronze pattern with the coppery sheen removed: a genetic mutation swaps the bronze for steel grey and dull black, each feather black at the base with an exposed surface of steel grey edging to white over a very dark slate undercolour. Its hallmark is the white wing bars, where primaries and secondaries are crossed by distinct, equal-width parallel black-and-white bars. A calm, good-mothering New England heritage turkey, it was added to the APA Standard in 1874 and remains a rare breed.
