About the Self Blue Slate Turkey

Self Blue (or Lavender) Slates are a pale, even blue-grey without the standard's black flecking, giving a softer, solid-coloured bird. They sit outside the exhibition Slate colour, and breeding Self Blue to Self Blue progressively dilutes the colour, fading toward white over generations, so breeders periodically reintroduce a flecked Slate to hold the bluish tone. Otherwise it is the same critically rare, naturally-mating American heritage turkey, valued for foraging ability and flavour.
