About the Slate Blue Slate Turkey

The standard Slate variety: dark steel- or slaty-blue throughout, dotted or flecked with black, with a red head changeable to bluish-white. This is the colour the APA recognised in 1874 and the form UK and US standards judge to. Flecking ranges from fine speckles to inch-or-larger black spots, but wholly black or white feathers, or any brown or buff, are disqualifying defects. A naturally-mating, good-foraging American heritage turkey, kept largely for exhibition and prized flavour, and a conservation-priority breed.
